A downloadable game for Windows

"It started with the wind...
That damn wind...
But I'm deaf...so it didn't affect me..."

Oddrietta, a game by Axel Vejar Dossow. Created with Rpg Maker 2003

3 days ago, 22 year old Henrietta was getting ready for work when she received a message from her mother: "Don't go out, the wind is changing people...". A mysterious wind appeared out of nowhere and if someone listens to it, they start to change: some get holes and pimples all over their body, some become grotesque abominations. Henrietta became deaf after a car accident 9 years ago, so she isn't affected by the wind...but she can't stay home forever. What's going on out there? What is that wind? Is Henrietta's mother okay?

Guide Henrietta through very bizarre locations, avoid grotesque monsters, solve puzzles, and collect 39 memories that might determine your final choice...

Features:

Time Loop mode: instead of dying and getting a gameover screen, restart the day but keep the memories you've recovered
3 endings
39 collectibles that affect the ending
Events affected by the number of times you've died/resurrected
Bizarre locations, bizarre situations, bizarre plot
Original soundtrack by Axel Vejar Dossow
Jumpscares everywhere
Trypophobia triggers

You finally bested me A.V Dossow! I could not finish this game, and it pains me because it was looking so good, this review may not be accurate since I think I only played like 25% of the game, but what I played was equally enjoyable and frustrating.

First I had some troubles running the game, maybe because the build is kinda old but no big deal, for anyone having issue (with the Itchio app) just download the file, install the RPGmaker file and then just run the game as admin

The game itself has a great concept, it has a lot of good ideas and some genuinely nice eerie atmosphere that I am starting to notice a lot in your early works; where it fails for me is on the application of the mechanics and a little bit of disregard for the player enjoyment.

By this I mean having to restart the loop every time and have to go trough the same conversations every time, and being able to switch from dead to loop was confusing to say the least since you have to die to progress (Very cool mechanic btw, I just think the implementation lacked finesse). I don't think a "skip puzzle/chase" is necessary but maybe just clearer clues for the player.

My playtrough was a constant switch between being amazed at the story, creative mechanics and environment and being absolutely frustrated by said mechanics and having to replay every segment 20 times after wandering lost for a while. As frustrating as it was I LOVED the torso woman section, she is my wife now.

I tried my best to get trough the dark labyrinth but it was honestly really frustrating,, and based on the screenshots on this page I feel I missed an absolute banger of a game with a few flaws. Despite all of that, this being made in 5 days is absolutely amazing, your ability never ceases to amaze me.

I apologize for not finishing the game. And despite what it may sounds I did enjoy the experience in the end and I appreciate you making all this games for me and others to enjoy.

Keep up the good work!

Hikiyami! Thank you so much for playing and your feedback! Don't worry about not finishing it, it is one of my most frustrating games hahahaha
This was my second game and it was quite experimental, it was made in 5 days so it was reaaaally rushed and I overlooked many, many aspects. I honestly can't remember why I made the time loop mechanic so frustrating, I mean, having to talk with everyone again, doing everything again...I don't know what I was thinking! And I even endured it during testing. I was totally crazy hahahah
And yeah, being punished for using the flashlight in very dark areas is straight down bad game design. I do like the plot and the atmosphere though, and after watching your video, I think I might remake this in MZ with better graphics, reworked mechanics, more areas and many endings. It would certainly be interesting to apply my current knowledge to my second game ever.  Hahaha, now I'm feeling the urge to remake this game as soon as possible! (but at the same time, I'm working on the third Alesa game and also on a game that involves a lot of body horror instead of gore)
Anyway
As always, thank you for your amazing feedback and your gameplay! :D

Is it possible to get pass the worm in the second loop in the apartment's vents? I got pass him and went to the room with all of the boxes, but I got killed immediately. :(

Update: Just completed the game and got Ending S. Is there any meaning to the door that spawns in said ending?

OK, just one more question: how do you get Ending C? I thought that you have to carry the Crimson Knife all the way to the end without every memory, but that didn't change the choices. It was still Yes or No.

Yes, it should be possible. You need to be really quick and move the boxes as soon as you enter the room

i can't believe here's no comments for 10 months. This game is so underrrated!

Thank you so much!

I'm stuck at the very beginning(-_-') With monster that chases you then stops then chases again. What is wrong with that weirdo?

Hello! If you look in her direction, she won't follow you. You need to advance while she's looking to the left, then, when she's looking to the right, you need to look at her so she doesn't attack.

(1 edit)

Thank you! Actually i already tried that, but i guess i'm too slow (;_;)
P.S. It's a she?!! Then i'm sorry for my rudeness^^

It may also help to know that she turns every 10 seconds approximately!

(+1)

Well that's a really big help, big thank you!

I just realized that you have been playing my games for 2 years! Damn! Thank you so much! You deserve a cameo in one of my next games hahaha

OMG!!! I finally reached the endings of your game!!! XDDD You see, I didn't understand the mechanics with the torso woman..I almost gave up.. (>.<) I'm glad I checked this page again, you've provided a hint! :3

(SPOILER) But, having to die everytime there's a monster for a memory then repeating the whole journey again is REALLY challenging - frustrating to others, maybe. I wished I could skip the dialogues. And the puzzles, oooohhhh the puzzles!!! I wanted to ki*ehem* blind Tom so much that I just spam the lever just to see red. XDDD

Thank you for the great game, dev! I'm keen on trying out your other games. :3

PS: I hope it's okay that I recorded my gameplay. You can find it here.

Thank you so much for playing and for finishing the game! I watched the entire video, amazing gameplay! I'm sorry you had to  go through the dialogues and puzzles over and over again haha, I reckon that is an extremely annoying gameplay mechanic and I should have made things easier.
I'm currently taking a break from game development (too busy with university) but I plan to make many more games, much better than this one haha.
Thanks again for playing, for making the video and for your feedback! It helps me improve as a game dev!

I hate games with chase scenes so sadly I couldn't get very far due to my poor motor skills but this was a very interesting concept! I hope you get far making games!

Thank you so much for playing!

you're welcome, i hope your next game is more accessible :)

Oddrietta's a pretty scary game, mainly made me jump when turning on the flashlight with a particular monster in a claustrophobic space launches towards you. Looking forward to playing more! ^o^

Thank you so much for playing! I really enjoyed the video! I hope you enjoy the rest of the game!

Hello AxelVejarDossow, glad you enjoyed the video! ^o^ I've been wondering around in the areas in which I can access and I can't find anything new to interact with to progress through the game, even with the Crimson Knife acquired late into the video. Any help with what to do next I would be very grateful! :)

Hello! Are you stuck in the area with the Torso Woman? The hint to beat her is actually given by one of the ghosts:
"she wants to be your friend...but she is so shy...if you look at her, she won't be able to be your friend"
As long as you keep looking at her, she wont' be able to harm you. Every few seconds, she turns to the left, and then she walks to the right. When she is facing left, that's when you need to move, and then you need to look to the left (directly at her). I.E., you must never turn your back while she's looking at you.

Let me rephrase that: as long as a) she is looking to the left or b) she is looking to the right but you're looking at her, she won't be able to harm you.

It's kind of similar to this game

Oh, and by the way, it's not mandatory to collect all the memories. It's only required to get the third ending, but you can still complete the game and get the other endings without collecting them all!

Hey, your game is amazing dude!

I want more people to know it, so I would like to ask permission to translate your game into portuguese! Thank you!

(+1)

Hello! Thank you so much!

If you want to translate it, it's okay! I'm curious to know how you would do it, though. You mean, like translating the dialogs/text, copying them down in a doc file and sending them to me? Or do you have the Rpg Maker 2003 engine and you would edit the text from the program and translate it?

Either way, feel free to translate the game!

I have RPG Maker 2003! I will translate the game directly in the engine and send to you! My discord is captainFelix#8123

That sounds great! I don't use discord though. Please let me know in here when the translation is over and we'll see how you can send me the project folder (you can actually delete the music from the game so the folder is only a few mbs in size and easier to share). You will obviously be credited as the translator of the portuguese version of the game!

(+1)

Hey, how are you? I finished the translation.

Great news! Could you sent it to me at this e-mail? Perhaps the folder in a zip/rar file? Thank you! Axelautomaton450@gmail.com

Oh, and tell me how would you like to be named in the credits.

Your games are amazing! loving this one.

(+1)

Wow! Thank you so much! :D

(+3)

Dude, how do you release games so fast

(+2)

Hahahaha, I also ask myself that! I should be working on my thesis and yet I'm making games nonstop! I guess I just love making games! Still, this game is on a smaller scale than Automagoria, but I had a lot of fun making it! Actually, I've just started working on yet another project for another jam. And after that, I think I'll continue Automagoria's story.
